The fourth Ultimo Science Festival bursts into life from 21 to 30 August 2009 with day and night events, school sessions, family & kids events, pub events, talks and forums for everyone. It's not just for geeks, scientists and students (though they'll be there...) it's for everybody!

The Ultimo Science Festival offers an amazing range of things to hear, see and do in National Science Week, along Harris St in Ultimo, 5 minutes walk from Sydney's Central Railway and most events are free.

The Ultimo Science Festival is supported by the Australian Government and the City of Sydney. It's an important event in the National Science Week calendar.

Events

ABC Family Science Fun Day

Simon Marnie and 702 ABC Sydney will broadcast live from ABC’s atrium where the atmosphere will buzz with science action for young and old and everyone else, all day long.

It should be heaps of fun: there’ll be science activities for kids, ABC personalities from Catalyst & the New Inventors, live reptiles, performances of science tricks from the Surfing Scientist and the Stand-up Mathematician, Speed Meet a Geek and heaps of other fun stuff. There’s also an exhibition of the scientific cartoon series – Frontiers of Science.

The World at Night

Astronomers Without Borders present The World At Night, a collection of stunning photographs and time-lapse videos of the world’s most beautiful and historic sites against a night time backdrop of stars, planets and celestial events. It is a bridge between art, humanity, and science.

The World at Night Talk
Renowned Australian astrophotographer, David Malin, will speak about the creation of the international World At Night exhibition images and the International Year of Astronomy.

Kids Events

The Surfing Scientist Book Launch & Show

Ruben Meerman the Surfing Scientist from ABC’s Rollercoaster and Catalyst demonstrates amazing science stuff live on stage. See unbelievable but true tricks straight from his brand new third book ”40 Super Human Body Tricks”. Awesome demos with liquid nitrogen and much more. Discover extraordinary powers within and get in touch with your inner super hero. Plus you can meet Ruben after the show for book signings.

When: Saturday 29 August; Shows at 11.40am and 2pm. Book signing after each show!
