*assimilate:* collaborative storytelling
UTS PhD student Damian Hills has merged science and design with contemporary social practice to create *assimilate*. In an installation housed at Beta_space in the Cyberworlds Gallery, a touch table fitted with a downward projection and multiple sensors runs *assimilate. *
This work encourages social networking on a different plane. With an interface that allows for multiple participants to comb online databases associated with myths and folklore, users can construct their own narratives for a 3-dimensional space. As the users chat, role-play, and continue through their adventure, the system learns how best to organise the choices participants make based on their behaviours during the process. The end product is a human-computer collaboration, with each assimilating the best qualities of the other to create an ideal narrative.
